How to Auto-Subscribe Your Instagram Stories

You can now add a “subtitle sticker” to Instagram Stories that automatically transcribes your audio into subtitles without the need for third-party apps. It is a useful tool for both authors and viewers, as live subtitle videos are more accessible to people with hearing impairments and those who prefer to watch without sound.
Unlike the automatic subtitles that can be seen in live IGTV videos, the new subtitle stickers are more like intentional video elements than plain text at the bottom of the screen – although you can also opt for a simple subtitle look if you prefer. Like other Instagram stickers, you can change the position, color, size and font of the caption, as well as edit the caption text, which is useful in cases where the app cannot hear the word. You can also use the Pen tool to draw under or over the screen writing.
At launch, Subtitled Stickers are in English only and therefore only available to iOS and Android users in predominantly English-speaking countries. Instagram says that the sticker will soon be usable in Instagram Reels videos, and can be integrated into other types of Instagram video content in the future.
How to add caption stickers to Instagram Stories (and ultimately Reels)
- Open the Instagram app, then record a new Story or Reels video. You can also choose to publish a video saved on your device.
- While editing a video, select the sticker icon in the editing options at the top.
- Select “Signatures” from the list.
- Place the sticker where you want it. You will see a preview of the text while the video is playing.
- If necessary, tap a word to edit it, and use the sticker editing options to change the signature design and layout.
- When you’re done editing, publish your video. Subtitles appear automatically when you play a video.
