Microsoft Confirms Windows 10 Preview Users Will Receive a Free Update

We’ve known for a long time that when Windows 10 comes out, it will be a free upgrade for most users . But what if you’re in preview ? Yes, you are included. So if you’re running an older version of Windows that isn’t up to date (like XP or Vista), installing Preview might get you to the door.

As Microsoft says on its Windows blog, if you are running Windows 10 Technical Preview as part of the Windows Insider Program and you have a valid Microsoft account connected to your installation, you will be upgraded to Windows 10 for free. If you’re already a part of the program, future builds will prompt you to connect your Microsoft account if you haven’t already.

While this is good news for those in the preview builds, it is also a convenient workaround for those who might be left behind when the free updates begin. Microsoft is extending the free upgrade path for Windows 7 and later users only, so if you are using XP or Vista you will have to pay for the full version to get Windows 10. However, if you install the preview now, you will be included in the program. free update. This also works if you are currently building a new computer.
