How to Reset AirTag to Pair With New Apple ID
Apple AirTags attach to everything – your keys, purse, luggage, and even your pet’s collar – but for all their versatility as tiny tracking devices, AirTags can only be associated with one Apple ID at a time. It’s ok if you’re the only one using AirTag and makes it difficult to steal or tamper with devices, but that means you need to remove AirTag from your Apple account if you want to use it with someone else. …
You can easily remove AirTags from your Apple ID in the Find My app, but if you disable AirTag while out of Bluetooth range, you’ll also need to manually reset it before anyone else can use it. Resetting an AirTag is simple, but requires very specific instructions.
How to manually reset AirTag
First, remove the AirTag battery cover:
- Click on the metal part of the AirTag by rotating it counterclockwise. Continue turning it until the cover stops rotating, then remove the cover.
Then you need to remove and reinsert the battery in a certain way several times:
- Remove the battery, wait a while, then reinsert it.
- Press on the battery until you hear a sound.
- After the sound plays, repeat these steps four more times (five times in total). Make sure you hear the sound completely all five times.
After you play the sound five times, close the battery cover, again making sure to complete each of the following steps:
- Make sure the three tabs on the battery compartment cover line up with the slots on the AirTag.
- Click on the cover until you hear a sound.
- Turn the cover clockwise until it stops rotating.
Your AirTag is now reset and you can associate it with your new Apple ID.
