This Flowchart Will Help You Find Your Career Personality Type.
Deciding on a career is not easy, especially when you are not quite sure what you want to do for a living. Knowing your career personality type can be helpful to get you started in the right direction.
This flowchart asks you a few simple questions to help you determine your work personality type. It is based on six personality traits of the University of Michigan professor of psychology John Holland, as well as his theory of career choice. Western Reserve Public Media summarizes the theory in the following points :
- In our culture, most people belong to one of six personality types: realistic, exploratory, artistic, social, entrepreneurial, and conventional.
- People with the same personality type work well together and encourage behaviors that support that personality type.
- There are six types of work environments: realistic, exploratory, artistic, social, entrepreneurial, and conditional.
- People look for an environment that matches their skills and abilities and expresses their values and views.
- People who work in an environment that suits their personality type are more likely to succeed and be satisfied.
- Your workplace (or school) affects how you act or work and how comfortable you are in that environment.
The flowchart asks you questions about your preferences to ultimately help you figure out which of the six personality types best describes you. This is probably an oversimplified way of thinking about this theory, but in fact I found it to be correct. At the very least, it gives you a starting point for thinking about what you like and what you don’t, and what type of work suits you best. Try below.
