Replace “very” With “damn” to Improve Your Writing Skills.
“Very” is one of those unnecessary words that can get bored when writing. Take Mark Twain’s advice and if you feel like writing “very,” replace “damn.”
However, you will not or should not necessarily leave all these “curses” (especially if you are writing children’s books). As Twain quotes The Write Practice:
“Substitute ‘damn’ every time you tend to write ‘ very,’ ” said Mark Twain. “Your editor will remove it and the text will be as it should be.”
Clear? Pretty damn good.
