To Be Less Busy, Focus on Task Management, Not Time Management
“If there were more hours in a day,” you tell yourself. You have so many things to do, and no matter how efficiently you use your time, there is always something to do. Instead of trying to effectively use your time to manage your to-do list, focus on managing the to-do list itself.
Like business psychologist Tony Crabbe. indicates that time management is a good idea. If you’re careful to be effective, you can get more done. The only problem is that as a result of doing more, you often have to do more . The more emails you send, the more you will need to reply later. The more projects you can start today, the more projects you will need to complete tomorrow. Instead of trying to squeeze in as much as possible in one day, focus on managing your tasks first, and then allocate your time:
In our endless world, we will never be able to handle everything again; too much to do. In Greek mythology, if you cut off one of the Hydra’s heads, two will grow back. As with Hydra, when we do more tasks, everything that happens seems to take their place – send more emails, get more replies. Basically, if we do more as a result of better management of our time, we are not achieving all of this – we just get busier.
This does not mean that time management has no place in your life. You must be able to effectively allocate your time to tasks that you consider important. However, if you don’t start by prioritizing your tasks, your time management will be just a waste of time trying to get all the cymbals spinning at the same time.
