Delete Previous Versions of Files in OS X Using This Menu Option
When you create files with most Apple apps (and some third-party apps), it automatically saves multiple versions of those files so you can easily revert to a previous version. This is great in most cases, but if you share your computer, you might not want people to have access. Six colors indicate a somewhat hidden menu for deleting these files.
If you open the file in an application such as Pages or TextEdit, you can go to the previous version screen by clicking File> Revert To> See All Versions. Here you can view previous versions of the file and find the one you want to delete. It will look like the menu bar is gone, but if you hover over it, it appears and you can now access the delete menu by choosing File> Return To> Delete This Version. Now these versions are gone forever.
