Use Suction Cups to Secure Camera Tripods and Light Stands
A good camera tripod or lighting stand is a matter of course , but they need to be safe to shoot safely, especially if other people might bump into them. People at DIY Photography explain that the cheap suction cups commonly used for lifting glass work well when attached to the bottom of a tripod or light stand.
We discussed that your tripods and light stands don’t have to cost a ton of money to get the job done, and while most people go out and grab sandbags to secure their light stands if you need to be a little more portable (or just don’t feel like lugging around with sandbags), these affordable suction cups are great. They cost around $ 30 on eBay, and since they were originally designed for lifting glass, they’re ideal – if you’re shooting on a flat surface, where the pads can of course get reliable suction.
If you’re shooting outdoors or on uneven surfaces like carpet, they won’t replace sandbags, but if your surface is that uneven, you’ll have problems with them as well. If you want to go all out, you can use pillows and sandbags for extra stability. Click on the link below to find out more and see their photos in action.
