Create a Three-Tiered Wedding Invite List to Prioritize Invitations

When you get married, you don’t want someone to feel left out. But you also can’t invite everyone you’ve ever met. List your guests under Must, Want, and Should to make sure the right people are doing it.

In their guide to wedding guest listing, Shutterfly suggests determining the number of guests first and sticking to it. Remember that things as simple as transportation for guests can add unexpected costs . Once you have a number, make lists:

Create a tier list of potential guests. Level 1 includes people to be invited; Level 2 includes people you would really like to invite; Level 3 includes people you think you “should” invite, but you may not personally care about it.

If your parents want to weigh the invitations, be sure to ask them to make a similar list. If the list is still too long, wedding photographer Olivia Rae James suggests using a “dinner party trick” – ask yourself who you would invite to your home for a dinner party or face to face chat.
