Take a tour of the office and desk of Haruki Murakami’s beloved best-seller, a workspace filled with memorabilia and nearly 10,000 vinyl records.
Known for his experimental creative novels, Murakami surrounds himself with objects (“talismans”) from his travels, such as a wooden foot engraved with a spider from Laos and a marble stone with a wasp from Scandinavia. Even more mundane items like pencil bunches are kept in commemorative containers (glasses that were a gift from a music store).
Murakami says that he almost always listens to music when he works, as evidenced by the wall of vinyl records:
