Maintain Your Productivity by Reading During Your Breaks
You probably already know that breaks are essential to be productive , but you may not know what to do with those breaks. After reading a good book, you will get a boost to your brain and can take your mind off work.
Avoiding any activity during work breaks may seem preferable, but you are also commanding your brain and body to rest, potentially killing any productive stream you may have. Joe Stewart, designer at Work & Co. , suggests reading instead:
It calms me down, forces me to focus and allows me to think about the bigger picture … When I’m exhausted and distracted, I pick up a book and do the same. Read for 15 to 20 minutes. I find myself refocused and refreshed, it’s like taking a nap … it feels like I’m using a different part of my brain – so my designer brain is resting and my reading brain is stimulating me. I come back ready to go and feel satisfied.
When you read, the gears in your head are still spinning, and you are kind of trying to get your brain to shut down. You can choose to read or not read anything related to your work. Anything that interests you. You can still do what you love during your break, and also get the opportunity to return to work with a new look. Taking a break doesn’t necessarily mean doing nothing.
