Avoid Free Shipping by Requesting a Better Deal
Free or cheap shipping has become common, but some retailers still charge quite high fees. These stores sometimes offer free shipping, but with a caveat: you must spend at least $ 50 or $ 75 or more to close the deal. Try to work around this by opening a chat session with the seller. Then ask for a better deal.
In Wise Bread, savings expert (and former Two Cents writer) Kyle James explains:
Many websites have live chat operators that have a specific number of coupons to hand out if you ask politely. Just start a chat session, explain your situation and tell the operator how you want to complete the purchase, but cannot justify the shipping cost as you are so close to the minimum order threshold. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with your result and have a great chance to get a coupon for free shipping without adding anything you don’t need to your cart.
Your success is likely to be unfortunate. However, this is something I hadn’t even thought of, and it’s easy enough to try for a salesperson who offers an online chat option. Check out the full post to find out more.
