Disable Windows 10 App Updates Using This Option (but Only in Pro)
Windows 10 Pro: We already knew that Windows 10 Home users would be forced to install Windows 10 updates from now on. However, this also applies to app updates from the Windows Store. If you’re using Windows 10 Pro, here’s how to turn them off.
For reasons not entirely clear, Microsoft removed the option to turn off automatic app updates for Windows 10 Home users. While requiring an OS update makes some sense (Microsoft is the source of them, after all), the requirement for app updates also seems arbitrarily harsh and could cause some problems if the developer does something nefarious, or even if a new version of the app doesn’t. work as well as the old one. If you’re using Windows 10 Pro, here’s how to disable this setting:
- Open the Windows Store app.
- Click your profile icon in the upper right corner and select Settings.
- In the App Updates section, turn off the toggle under Update apps automatically.
For Windows 10 Home users, it seems like the only option to disable this setting is to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for $ 100. It is unclear if Microsoft will want to change this policy over time. While app updates are required, obviously you can still uninstall any app purchased through the Windows Store fairly easily. But, nevertheless, this is a rather annoying inconvenience.
