Prevent Windows 10 From Automatically Restarting Your Computer After an Update
Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs updates without notifying the user. If you need a little more control, go to the advanced settings of Windows Update, where you can schedule when automatic updates will restart your computer.
In the Settings app, choose Update & Security> Windows Update and click the Advanced Options button. In the dropdown list, switch the setting to Notify on scheduled restart.
AskVG notes that this won’t disable or block Windows Update, but it will allow you to decide when to restart your computer. Their article also mentions the “Defer Updates” option, which delays the download of updates (other than security updates), but I don’t have this option in my settings. If you want to delay Windows updates, you can also switch your Wi-Fi settings to metered connection .
