Be Sure to Check Your Credit Report With All Three Bureaus

To protect yourself from fraud and just check your overall financial condition, it is important to check your credit regularly . You want to do this at least once a year, but don’t go to just one bureau. There are three main credit bureaus (TransUnion, Equifax, and Experian) and your credit details may differ from each one.

Credit.com expert Jeri Detweiler explains:

Not all lenders report to all three agencies, and agencies do not share information. Inaccuracies may creep in, including information that should have been outdated and not out of date, errors caused by typos or confusion with the same name. If you find a bug in one, it’s wise to check the other two to make sure it’s fixed wherever it appears.

I have to admit, I’m guilty that I checked only one bureau. And to make matters worse, when I check, it’s usually the same bureau, which is very silly. We’ve told you many ways to get a free copy of your report , and you are eligible to receive one copy annually from all three offices, so be sure to take advantage of this benefit.
