Install Windows 10 Store Apps Without Switching to a Microsoft Account
In Windows 8, Microsoft has added its own app store. Now, on Windows 10, it doesn’t really suck. The only downside is that when you install apps, your Windows account will be forced to connect to your Microsoft account. If you prefer to use a local account but still download apps from the Store, follow these steps.
As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allows you to sign in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your computer. However, you may prefer to keep your local account for privacy reasons . However, in this case, some Windows 10 features, such as Cortana, may not work. Despite its default behavior, Windows 10 Store isn’t one of them. You can still sign in to your Store- only Microsoft account without upgrading to a full Microsoft account. However, the process is not so obvious. To do this, follow these steps:
- Launch the Store from the Start Menu.
- Click the user icon next to the search box.
- In the menu that appears, click “Login”.
- Select “Microsoft Account” and sign in as usual.
- When the Make It Your Own window appears , do not enter your password . Instead, click Sign in to this app only.
You can skip this option entirely if you try to install applications directly without logging in. While this can be avoided by reading carefully, it is also easy to miss. If you’re using a Microsoft account tied directly to Windows, this obviously won’t be a problem anyway. However, a Microsoft account is required to install apps from the Store. This way, you don’t need to tie this login to the whole machine.
