Change Your Career Path With This Simple LinkedIn Exercise

If you feel like you are going in the wrong direction in your current career, this tracking exercise can help you figure out what steps you might want to take.

LinkedIn is great for networking and finding new opportunities, but it can also show you how other successful people got where they are now. Clark Wahlberg, co-founder and CEO of InVision , invites you to use LinkedIn to do a simple exercise to help you find direction and get motivated. This is how it fails:

  1. Pick five people on LinkedIn who are doing what you want to do.
  2. Check out their LinkedIn pages and retrace their career paths to see what kind of work you should consider now.
  3. Apply for “similar” jobs that match your level of experience.

If you want, you can also email five people of your choice and let them know how they helped you. You can find the right string and find a mentor from the situation. If you are feeling lost or stuck, look at what successful people have done to get their way. You may not get a new job right away, but you will have a better understanding of where you should set your compass. Follow the link below to find out more.
