Cut the Threaded Bolts With an Angle Grinder to Shorten Them

An angle grinder is the best tool for trimming bare bolt ends. Here’s how to do it.

To do this, you need a bench vise and an angle grinder with a metal cut-off wheel . Use a Sharpie pen to mark where you want to cut and use a vise to secure the head of the bolt. Before cutting the bolt, screw the nut to the base to help align the threads after you cut them. With your angle grinder turned on, walk right up to the bolt and cut right through it.

Use a bench grinder or abrasive sponge to clean the end of the bolt and use a wrench to unscrew the nut from the bolt.

After cutting off the bolt, wait a few seconds before touching it as it will be very hot.

When using an angle grinder, always wear safety glasses and pay attention to where the grinder guard is directed to catch sparks. Remember that there are flammable substances on the work table or in the immediate vicinity, and remove them to prevent fire.
