Light up the Gas Water Heater Warning Light in a Few Easy Steps
If the water has cooled down, the water heater flame has probably gone out. You don’t need any tools or handyman to re-light the test light. Just follow these steps.
Newer models of gas water heaters have built-in ignitors that can be used when the flame has gone out. You simply press a button (similar to how a gas grill works) and a spark ignites the pilot lamp.
Older water heaters require a long lighter and a little maneuvering in tight corners to ignite a flame. Turn off the gas handle and dial completely before attempting to ignite the pilot. This will allow any excess gas to dissipate and prevent fire.
