Add to Taskbar Feature in Chrome Doesn’t Work on Windows 10, Here’s What to Do Instead
Every year I feel like I’m using more and more web apps instead of desktop apps. Chrome’s “Add to Taskbar” is a great way to make these WebApps feel like desktop apps, but that’s a little broken in Windows 10.
If you try to add a site to the Windows taskbar, you will likely notice that it is not showing at all. After trying this about six times today, I found that the feature still only half works: it creates an app shortcut, but not on the taskbar. After clicking Add to Taskbar, you have two options:
Take it from the Start Menu :
- Click the Windows 10 Start Menu and you should see the app shortcut under Recently Added.
- Right-click the application icon and select Pin to taskbar. It should appear on your taskbar.
Grab it from the Chrome app launcher :
If you’ve disabled Recently Added in the Start menu (or it doesn’t appear for any reason), do the following:
- Enter
chrome://apps
in the Chrome address bar and press Enter. This should bring you to Chrome’s “application launcher”. - You should see a shortcut there. Right-click it and make sure Open in Window is selected.
- Click the application icon to launch it. Its icon should appear on the Windows taskbar.
- Right-click the icon on the taskbar and select Pin to Taskbar.
It upset me a lot this morning, so I hope it helps some people.
