See a Broken Website on IOS? Check Your Ad Blocker
Ad blocking is perhaps the most popular feature in iOS 9, but it seems to be causing problems already, namely completely hacking some online shopping sites.
Many sites have internal code that works similarly to ad trackers. For example, online shopping sites track your activity so that sellers can see how buyers are behaving. Unfortunately, if you block such content, it can completely disrupt the site. Sites like Bass Pro Shops found images not showing when users block ads with Crystal , while other sites like Sears showed a completely blank homepage . Other sites had issues when users tried to add items to their cart.
After testing several sites, it seems that this particular issue has already been resolved. But this is nothing new to those of us who have used privacy-related extensions on desktops, although it may be new to many mobile users. At the very least, this glitch is a good lesson for users of privacy extensions or ad blockers: if the site isn’t working, try disabling (or whitelisting) the extension. This often solves the problem instantly.
In iOS 9, you can long press the Refresh button to view the page without ad blockers.
