Winterize Your Sprinkler System to Prevent Pipe Burst

To avoid freezing irrigation pipes this winter, release the pressure and drain the water. This video shows you how to do it.

If you live in an area where the ground freezes over, you probably know to shut off your sprinkler and irrigation system during the winter. But this is not enough to prevent your PVC pipes from bursting due to the expansion of the frozen water. You need to drain the water from your irrigation system and remove as much water from the pipes as possible.

The first step is to shut off the water in your system, then open any manual vent valve. Then turn on the sprinkler system to relieve any remaining pressure completely. You can take it one step further by blowing out the sprinkler system with compressed air.
