How to Turn Off Animations on Windows (and Make It Run Faster)

Windows is not very pleasing to the eye these days, but it still contains a lot of unnecessary animations. Here’s how to turn them off.

Turning off animations doesn’t necessarily speed up your system, but it can make certain actions feel faster. Of course, if you are using a very old system, you may see a more noticeable increase in speed, but this is mainly due to cosmetic preferences.

To turn off all animations , go to Control Panel> Ease of Access Center> Make your computer more visible and select the Disable unnecessary animations check box. Click OK and you should notice that most of the action happens instantly, not with an attached animation.

To disable certain animations individually , right-click the Start menu and select System (if you are using Windows 7, open the Start menu, right-click Computer and select Properties). From there click on Advanced System Settings and under Performance click on Settings.

On the Visual Effects tab, you should see a list of animations built into Windows. You can uncheck the ones you don’t need and leave the ones you like checked. Click OK when finished.

Again, you may not notice a significant increase in performance, but some actions will appear to be faster because you are not watching the animation play.
