Masonic De-Stink Jars With Salt
Even glass jugs can catch odors over time. Fortunately, you already have everything you need to get rid of bad odors right in your kitchen.
Instructables user peekaboo shows us that all it takes to get rid of the odor from a stone jug is a pinch of salt and some elbow grease. Rinse and dry the jar first to remove any food debris. Add a pinch of good sized salt, shake vigorously for about 30 seconds, and then wash and dry the jar as usual. I tried this method on a jar that I kept my homemade kimchi in for several months, and it retained a slight scent despite a couple of good washings. The salt trick worked like a spell.
As an experiment, I also tried it on a plastic storage container in which we kept some Indian food. While it handled odor well, the salt did scratch the inside a little, leaving the plastic a little cloudy. I would just soak them in vinegar and water.
