Make More Nutritious Salads With a Focus on Water Content
If you’re on a diet or just trying to eat healthier, salads are likely to become a staple in your diet. While they are great for filling you with fiber, you must also consider the water content of each ingredient to create truly nutritious salads .
Many common salad ingredients are high in fiber but low in nutritional value. For example, Iceberg salad consists mainly of water. Darker, looser greens like spinach, red leaf, or mixed greens are a much healthier and equally satisfying salad base. You should also consider the water content of the other salad ingredients. Other vegetables that are high in water (such as cucumbers, celery, and radishes) are the least nutritious and can easily be replaced with other healthy and tasty foods (such as broccoli or carrots).
