Whole Wheat Flour Has a Short Shelf Life, so Freeze It
If you are not good at cooking (guilty), it may never have occurred to you to freeze flour. But it is possible, and not only possible, if you are dealing with whole grain flour you should freeze it.
Kitchn addresses the major differences between whole grain and regular processed flour. In fact, whole grain and whole grain flours still contain bran and germ, which means they are more susceptible to spoilage and, according to Kitchen, “can go rancid pretty quickly.” In fact, whole grain flour only has a shelf life of a few months, but freezing can extend this period.
They add that whole grain flour is also more prone to attracting pests, so yeah, I’m sure let’s put it in the freezer. Simply place it in an airtight container or freezer bag. When you’re ready to use it, just take it out and let it defrost a little. Whole wheat flour can keep in the freezer for up to six months, and you can check this handy guide to find out the shelf life of other flours.
