You May Be Able to Relieve Hangover Headaches With Relaxing Music.
Throbbing brain pain can be the worst part of a nasty hangover. Before you get the dog hair , try adding your favorite relaxing tunes instead.
There has been a lot of research that suggests music can relieve pain associated with migraines and other ailments, so Tom Barnes of Mic asked some experts if music could help with crappy hangovers. Dr. Alexander Mauskop of New York’s Headache Center told Barnes that music can be as good as medicine:
We have strong evidence that music relieves all pain. There is no reason to think that the hangover would be any different. It is not as strong as morphine, but may be as strong as Tylenol.
Additionally, Dr. Lynn Webster, former president of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and current VP of Science for PRA Health Sciences, suggests that music can calm your hangover through mental distraction (provided it relaxes you):
I would think a hangover is like a migraine in the sense that you don’t need anything too harsh or too loud. But if it can distract you, in theory it will bring you some relief. People who really love music, or who like certain types of music or musicians, if they were in pain and could access this type of music, they would have a memory that they could attract and share their experiences. Both of these will have the additional effect on their ability to displace and drown out the loop of pain they are experiencing.
Although there has been no definitive psychological research on this topic, there is evidence that music can relieve pain. If you really feel like Friday night is coming Saturday morning, you can try. You can read more on how to relieve hangovers with music at the link below.
