Why You Shouldn’t Cook With Hot Tap Water Anyway

In older homes, hot tap water may contain small amounts of lead from the solder used to join the pipes. But even modern plumbing can flush chemicals into hot water, so this rule still applies.

The heat helps dissolve substances more quickly , whether we’re talking about the aromatic compounds in tea leaves or the chemicals that make up your water pipes. A study team engineer Andrew Welton, showed that some brands of pipelines of polyethylene isolated in hot water 100 times more specific chemicals than in the cold, and that some brands leached than others. These chemicals are not necessarily dangerous, but some can change the smell and taste of the water, and others can exceed health limits in some states. If you prefer to play it safe, use cold water for drinking and cooking.
