Limit Your Budget by Spending Money Only a Couple of Days a Week

How often do you spend money? More importantly, how often do you spend money when you don’t need it? Simplify your budget and find out by limiting your spending to two or three days a week.

As explained on the personal finance blog My Mixed Up Money, while it may seem difficult, it is fairly easy to limit your spending to a few days a week if you plan correctly. Once you do this, your temptation to spend more than you owe will disappear.

This may sound difficult, but it is actually very simple. During the week, I am busy with things and plans that are free or for which I have already paid. I leave one weekday open for the gas station, grocery store, or out-of-home dining. Before I had this rule, I always spent money for such modest reasons. I was bored, I was hungry (because I was bored), I didn’t want to cook dinner tonight, and I had to go see a new movie. Well, that has changed. Because I prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day, I save a lot more than the average full-time employee.

Of course, food is one of the biggest sources of impulsive spending, but buying things like gadgets or activities can probably wait a few days as well. As a bonus, if you wait a few days to buy something and then realize that you don’t care too much about what you spend your money on, you will automatically save that money.
