Sand Wood More Efficiently With a Pencil
Pencil marks can be a great indicator of how much more sanding needs to be done. Try this trick the next time you’re sanding a wooden board.
Mark the length of the surface to be sanded with a pencil. Draw an S-shaped movement for more coverage. Using an orbital sander , sand the wood until the pencil mark disappears and you know it’s time to move on to a finer grain. The line should be lighter each time you change the sanding paper.
This trick will save you the hassle of wasting time returning to coarser sanding. Watch the video demo from The Family Handyman shown above.
