10 Fun and Accessible States for Young People

If you want to cut costs, it can help you find a job and move to a low-cost state. However, not everyone is ready to live in a place with nothing to do. Trying to find the best of both worlds, MoneyRates has compiled a list of the “Best States for Youth”.

Keep in mind that what some young people like may not be interesting to others, so this is a very subjective list. But MoneyRates looked at common factors that help children between the ages of 2 and 24 thrive, and then analyzed eight of those factors across all 50 states. They measured, for example, employment, nightlife, rent and education costs.

You can check out their full methodology at the link below, but here are a few highlights from their list:

North Dakota. If it surprises you that North Dakota is considered the best state for youth, consider this: It has more people in their 20s and 24s than any other state, so it must have something to do to attract youth. In fact, it does several things: North Dakota has the lowest youth unemployment rate and the fourth lowest rent. However, the attractiveness of North Dakota lies not only in the economy. The state also has the second highest number of nightlife spots per capita.

Louisiana . You might think Louisiana made it to the top 10 for its nightlife, but in fact it ranks higher in terms of per capita health clubs than nightclubs. However, keep in mind that this is not the best state to find work – the only category in which Louisiana was below average was jobs for young people.

District of Columbia . The district earns top marks for youth and broadband access and has the second highest per capita fitness center. The main disadvantage is that the rent is the second highest in the country.
