Skip Slides for Next Presentation

The next time you’re putting together a set of slides for your presentation, ask yourself, “Do I really need this?” Then, most likely, stop making slides.

As Business Blog Inc. notes, more often than not, a slide set doesn’t add that much to your presentation. While the script might sound more structured, these slides can get in the way if you rely too much on them. In most cases, your listeners do not need to see your script. They just need you to read from there:

Come on, you know you hate them. Slide decks convey almost nothing useful. If you have graphics that really illustrate what you are saying, then perhaps you can add some slides. But it’s better not to bother, otherwise the audience will fall asleep.

The only key exception that Inc. notes is if the slides you include contain information that is best conveyed visually. A graph, diagram, or photograph is something that you cannot adequately explain in a few words, so it might be better to show than tell. However, if your slides are just bulleted lists of notes, leave them on the page and just say what you want to say.
