Fall Asleep Faster by Making a Brain Dump Before Bed
When you have a lot of thoughts at the end of the day, it can be difficult to fall asleep. If this sounds familiar to you, try washing your brain before bed.
Most of us have a ton of thoughts running through our heads before going to bed. These could be reminders, ideas, or just random interesting things that you thought about. In an interview with Tim Ferris, philosopher Alain de Botton explains his strategy to calm these thoughts before bed. He tells Ferris that he takes a few minutes to quickly jot down all of his random thoughts before bed.
A brain dump at the end of the week can be rewarding , but doing it before bed is a great way to clear your head and still make sure your thoughts are processed. Of course, if you research these thoughts too deeply, it can backfire and prevent you from falling asleep thinking about them. To combat this, de Botton simply writes down a few short phrases or words to express these larger ideas. It helps him make ideas tangible so that he can get them out of his head and put them on paper, and then come back to them later.
It is worth trying if you have trouble falling asleep due to racing thoughts. Watch the interview for yourself at the link below.
