Some of the Best Hidden Streets in Ten Popular Travel Destinations
As dire as the “tourist” spots are, most of us feel obligated to visit the Times Square of any city we are in at some point during our travels. But it’s always nice to see the more secluded parts of the city. Travel and Leisure has compiled a fascinating list of hidden gems in 10 popular travel destinations.
Travel author Selena Hoy lists 67 different streets in these cities – several for each destination. So you’ll definitely want to check out the full post, but here are a few highlights from each city:
- Calle Flassaders, Barcelona : She describes it as a winding and picturesque street full of boutiques and small eateries.
- Xuetang Lu, Beijing : “The real attraction is the beautiful ginkgo trees on campus. In autumn they cover the area with creamy yellow spatulate leaves. “
- William J. Day Boulevard, Boston : Walk along the beaches and stumble across Fort Independence.
- North Alta Vista Terrace, Chicago: The city’s first historic district.
- Marylebone Lane, London : “When Ivy opens a store there next month, that could change. In the meantime, it is a charming narrow street with unique independent shops with a bohemian vibe … “
- Chung King Road , Los Angeles: This is an arts district in Chinatown and many people take self-guided tours of the gallery at night.
- Stable Road, Maui: “ It’s a little-known road that leads to a group of hidden beaches,” says Hoy.
- Macondry Lane, San Francisco: You climb a secluded area surrounded by trees and gardens. It looks like a hike, but surrounded by private homes.
- Omoide Yokocho, Tokyo : A narrow street filled with many food and drink options . The eateries and bars are tiny and only cater for a few visitors.
