Gmail’s Inbox Adds Smart Replies That Predict What You’re About to Say

Ever wanted your phone to just know what you want to say so you don’t have to type it in? Gmail’s unconventional Inbox app hopes to do just that with a new smart reply feature.

Think of Smart Reply as a predictive keyboard, but on a much larger scale. When you click on the Reply box, it will scan the message and suggest some suggestions based on key phrases. For example, if he sees in the message “do you have”, he will offer you some formulaic answers, such as “No, sorry” or “I’ll send it to you.” You can then add additional details to your message or send it as is.

Smart Inbox also learns over time, so it should improve as you use it. You can find out more about how it works or update your copy on Google Play or the iTunes App Store. The update should be released later this week. Now, if only it was in the regular Gmail app too.
