This Illustration Shows How Annoying Your Keyboard Can Be (and How to Clean It)

With all the dust, dead skin, and germs, computer keyboards can get dirty pretty quickly. This handy graphic shows you what might be hiding on your keyboard, as well as some tricky ways to clean it up.

This infographic from Quill.com and Ghergich & Co. shows how much harmful bacteria can be lurking on uncleaned computer keyboards. In some cases, the keyboard can be even more dangerous than the toilet seat, and the risk is higher because your fingers touch these keys. Even the dangerous, drug-resistant MRSA and VRE have been found to survive on the keyboard for up to 24 hours.

Luckily, the drawing also explains how it can be cleaned and disinfected. You can use a vacuum cleaner, compressed air, rubbing alcohol, and toothbrushes to keep it looking like new again. At the very least, let it be a reminder to clean your keyboard well. If you want to prevent your keyboard from getting too dirty in the future, be sure to clean it regularly and wash your hands or use hand sanitizer before touching the keyboard.
