Prevent Avast From Adding Your Signature to Outgoing Emails
Avast is the favorite antivirus program of Lifehacker readers, but it’s certainly annoying. A recent update now inserts an Avast ad footer into your outgoing messages. Here’s how to turn it off.
- Right-click the Avast icon in the system tray and select Open Avast User Interface.
- Click the gear icon in the upper right corner to go to Avast settings.
- In the General section, uncheck the Enable Avast Email Signing box.
Imgur Sinuce notes one more place where you might need to change the settings :
- In the settings window go to the Active protection tab.
- Click “Configure” next to the Mail Shield option.
- Click the Behavior tab.
- Uncheck “Insert note in blank message (outgoing)”.
Both settings are enabled by default, which is very annoying, especially since you might not know that this signature is being added to your emails until you see one of the messages you sent. I tried to send myself a couple of emails to activate this signature, but with no success, so it seems to be inserted randomly.
Here are some other settings you might want to change in Avast to make it less annoying .
