John Oliver’s Tips for Getting Rid of Horrible Gifts You Don’t Need
Let’s face it, we’ve all received gifts that might as well have been lumps of coal. If you’re careful enough, you can use these tips to get rid of these nasty things and look generous right away.
In this video, John Oliver , host of HBO’s Last Week Tonight , lays out the truth when it comes to this gift-focused time of year. Some gifts are awesome and some are just the worst things ever (oh candle, thanks). Between all the jokes, however, there are some pretty helpful regeneration tips:
- Never pass on to someone who knows the original donor. Save bad gifts from your family for Santa’s secret office and vice versa.
- Personalize your gift with an intimate but vague note such as “Saw it and couldn’t resist!” or “It is so you!”
- Disguise the gift by creatively repackaging it , or at least use a gift bag.
Be sure to limit registrations to one gift per person, otherwise people will begin to understand your redistribution methods. Plus, it never hurts to think about your regeneration. If you have something that you do not want, think about who will do it. Signing up can be a little shady, of course, but it can also be a great way to make everyone happy.
