Decorate Cookies Like a Pro With a Mesh Strainer
Homemade cookies are a great gift, and you can make your cookies almost professional with a strainer and powdered sugar.
This technique is so simple that even young children can help decorate cookies. Place the powdered sugar or cocoa powder in a strainer (use a basin to rest and collect excess powder). Place the baked, chilled cookies next to each other on parchment paper. Sprinkle the powder over the cookies by gently tapping the strainer over the rows of cookies. Tap the cookies while peeling them off the paper to get rid of loose powder. Gather the edges of the paper together and pour the excess powder back into the strainer for the next batch.
Bon Appetit has five other decorating techniques you can use. They vary in complexity, but you can handle any of them with a few tries. Watch the video above to see each technique.
