Keep a Sleep Diary to Help You Get Better Sleep
There is nothing better than a good night’s sleep, so when you don’t get it, it can be the hardest problem to solve. To understand this, keep a diary and keep a sleep diary.
It might sound like overkill, but journaling can be a surprisingly effective problem-solving tool . If you’re trying different methods for a better night’s sleep, Mintfull’s productivity blog suggests keeping a sleep diary to track those methods and find which ones work best. Here’s how to get started:
Before you change anything, figure out where you want to start. Write it down.
Next, write what you are going to change.
Example : Average bedroom temperature at night: 70 ° F >> 65 ° F change
After you have made this change, write down the result. To do this, they suggest answering three questions in your diary:
- How do you feel? Anxious, agitated, sleepy, “I hate Mondays,” etc. Rate your mood on a scale of 1 to 10.
- How much energy do you have? Rate 1 to 10.
- How did you sleep? Deep, light, intermittent, restless, etc.
You can add additional information of your choice and record your responses as close to awakening as possible. By tracking your habits and their results over time, you can better understand what actually works for a better night’s sleep.
