Why You Should Still Attend Team Training When You Are Injured
When you’re injured, you can still stay in touch with your team offside. In this video, Brandi Chastain, who you may remember, won a point at the 1999 Women’s World Championship , explains how she helped her team when she was injured.
First, she says, attend training and train as much as possible outside of the game. This gives the team a signal that you are still a part of it and plan to be a valuable player when you return. For example, if the team were running on the field, Chastain says they would do push-ups offside.
You can also benefit yourself and your team by focusing on the game, for example by observing games with an analytical eye. I’ve been in this situation several times and managed to find teamwork – once as an assistant coach and another time as a bench manager. Chastain suggests that injured players can also help their team by filming videos or tracking stats.
