Best Cities for Women in Tech
The issue of gender diversity in the tech industry is a problem for all of us . However, some cities are doing better than others when it comes to equal pay and job growth for women in high technology.
SmartAsset identified the best cities for women in tech based on: percentage of women in the tech workforce, female-to-male income ratio, post-housing income, and three-year employment growth for women. They only looked at cities with a population of at least 200,000 and a large number of technicians, and then rated 54 cities that met those criteria.
Topping the list is Washington, DC, where women make up over 37% of the tech workforce, likely due to the federal government’s hiring policies. Kansas City, Missouri, filled with tech startups, is in second place – one of only two cities in the study where women in tech industries do not face the gender pay gap. The full list is below, but head over to SmartAsset to read descriptions of the top cities and why they are more welcoming to women in tech.
