Try These Fixes to Keep IOS 14.6 From Draining Your Battery
The iOS 14.6 update introduces exciting new features such as unlocking iPhone using voice commands and new Apple Pay features for family groups. Also, it looks like it is degrading your iPhone’s battery performance.
In the early days after the release of iOS 14.6, scores of iPhone owners have reported sudden terrible battery life and even overheating. The problem is widespread, judging by numerous posts on Apple support forums , Reddit, and social media .
At the time of writing, Apple has not disclosed the reason or indicated if a patch is in the works, but there are several possible workarounds you can try.
Uninstall apps that are consuming too much battery power
As reported by ZDNet , some users notice that Apple Podcast and Apple Music apps are using much more system resources than usual, and uninstalling the apps solved the battery drain issue. However, this is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Apps work fine for some users, while others don’t have them installed at all, which implies that the problem occurs elsewhere in the OS.
You can check if Apple Podcasts, Apple Music, or any other app is using up extra power in Settings> Battery. The menu lists all the apps on your device and battery life. If any of them are consuming too much of your iPhone’s power, uninstall them and see if that solves the problem, but again, this doesn’t work for everyone.
Change the auto brightness settings
Other users claim that disabling the auto brightness setting restores normal battery use. Of course, as with the podcast app, it doesn’t work for everyone – in fact, it seems less efficient – and many people say they already have automatic brightness turned off and the problem still arises.
