Airlines Offering Opt-Out Travel in Preparation for This Weekend’s Storm
The East Coast expects snowstorms over the weekend, and most airlines are already gearing up for travel disruptions. Consumerist lists airlines issuing recommendations and rejecting services for customers who may find their plans thwarted by the storm.
Most airlines waive rebooking fees for the next few days at airports in hurricane path. Here are some rules:
Delta Air Lines : Delta’s waiver of ticket price changes applies to 33 airports, with changes allowed for any flights scheduled between January 22nd and 24th. Tickets must be rebooked by January 27, and rebooked trips must start on the same day. You can change your flight for free on the airline’s website.
United Airlines : If you are traveling to or departing from any of the 35 United airports between January 22-24, you can change your flight for free. There will be no charge if you rebook your flight before January 27, however, if you change your flight to a later date, you may have to pay the difference in fare.
Southwest Airlines : Southwest ‘s weather waiver applies to 17 airports. If you are arriving soon to, from or through these cities, tickets are changed free of charge. Check the list for dates as it varies by location – some cancellations will be valid until January 24, while others will only be valid until January 23.
Consumerist also lists policies for JetBlue, American, Virgin, and more, so be sure to follow the link for a full list.
