Keep Everyday Meals Simple to Stimulate Home Cooking

Meal planning can be challenging, but we often make it harder than it needs to be. When it’s hard to cook, we’re more likely to give up and order takeout, especially after a busy day at work. To combat this, try to eat simple on weekdays.

I’ve been trying to keep up with my goal this month , while realizing that I usually order takeout not because I really want fried noodles, but because making dinner after work seems so overwhelming. And there’s a reason for that: When I plan meals, I choose fun yet challenging recipes.

Here’s what the humble bloggers Frugalwoods suggest instead:

Don’t put Beef Wellington on your regular rotation – it takes hours to cook, it’s complicated, and the raw ingredients are damn expensive. It might seem like a stellar idea when you’re planning a meal on a lazy Sunday afternoon with a cup of coffee in hand and the idyllic NPR sounds coming over the radio, but by 6pm Tuesday night after work, taking out the trash and walking your dog want to do this.

I know this seems pretty obvious. But if you enjoy dining out, it’s probably because you value delicious and delicious food. So when you cut back, you can try to get the same by cooking at home, but that can backfire.

The Frugalwoods recommend saving these fancy recipes for the weekend. Not only does this give you more time to focus, but it also gives you a culinary experience to look forward to, so again, you won’t be tempted to spend money on restaurants.

If you’re taking part in our trial, or just trying to cut costs for the restaurant in general, you’ll want to read the full post at the link below because they offer a number of other suggestions.
