“You Can’t Have a Dollar Without a Penny”

You can’t buy anything for a penny these days, but as the quote above tells us, every penny counts.

The quote comes from Washington Post Big Mama’s grandmother Michelle Singletari, who also said that “every penny goes to the pot.” Words of wisdom about giving your money a purpose .

For most of us, a penny here, or a penny lost or spent, doesn’t really matter – until you realize it’s the penny that brings you the dollar (and the dollars that brings you to the $ 5 note … and so on):

Big Mama believed that every penny was worth worrying about. Literally every penny you had was as important as the dollars you saved. She taught me that pennies that you might think don’t matter much can add up in the long run. Think about it. “It takes a penny to turn 99 cents into $ 1,” she stressed.

It’s not about taking a stingy attitude ( frugality is so far away that you just behave cheaply ). It’s about counting all our money, starting with how we perceive it.
