Wallpaper Environment for Mac Automatically Downloads Beautiful Desktop Images
OS X: Inspired by our old wednesday wallpaper series, reader Jason has created this open source app that automatically downloads the best photos of the day from Flickr, NASA and NatGeo to use (selectable or random) as wallpaper.
Wallpaper Wednesday lives in the menu bar and with one click you can switch or select new wallpapers from the Internet. OS X already allows you to rotate the wallpaper, but this is taken from Flickr’s Best Photos of the Day, NASA’s Photos of the Day, National Geographic Society’s Featured Photos, and as Jason points out, it can be easily changed for other uses as well:
The app can be extended to provide other options – and includes some starting code to support NASA and other RSS feeds. Users can also set intervals for how often the app updates the wallpaper, or choose a new wallpaper whenever they like.
After installation, you can tell the application to load at startup, select the wallpaper rotation rate, choose which of the three built-in sources you want to use, or after starting it, view the wallpaper from the selected source and select that one. you want to use. It’s simple, clean, and does whatever it takes with no bullshit.
