Play YouTube Audio in the Background on IOS Using the Play Button on Your Headphones
If you want to listen to YouTube audio on your phone while doing multiple tasks with other apps at the same time or after you have locked the screen, close the YouTube app and hit the play button on your headphones.
Usually, when you go to your home screen or switch apps to iOS, YouTube audio stops streaming automatically. In this video from Tech Insider, Matthew Stewart shows you an easy way to listen to a song or lecture on YouTube in the background while multitasking at the same time or even locking your iPhone or iPad. Here’s how:
- Open the YouTube video in Safari, not the YouTube app, and start playing it.
- Press the Home button to return to the home screen. The video and audio will stop.
- Now press the play button on the headphones. The sound will start playing in the background again and you can use other apps or lock the screen without interrupting it.
One caveat: you must listen through headphones and the audio will stop as soon as the video ends. We’ve already explained how to do something like this using the double-tap method , but this method is much easier if you don’t mind listening with headphones.
