Make a Pair of Shoes in Minutes With a Hair Dryer
Whether you’re stuck in the store choosing between a slightly comfortable 9.5 and an oversized 10, or you’re putting on new shoes for the first time and want to make sure they’re comfortable, a hairdryer and some thick socks are all you need to keep your new sneakers ready for a night out in the city.
This is a variation on a very old trick , but it still works like an amulet. Simply slip a pair of thick socks over the socks you want to wear with your shoes (such as thick winter socks) and tuck your feet into those shoes. They should be tight, that’s okay. Then grab a hairdryer and – assuming your shoes are made from natural material and not plastic or anything that might melt – blow the hairdryer over the narrow parts of the shoes until they feel a little better. Maybe it’s over the bridge of your foot or the toe is a little tight. Either way, run the dryer until you get the flexibility you want. Turn off the dryer, walk around in your shoes and wear them until they are completely cool and you are fine. Take off the heavy socks and see how well they feel and repeat as needed.
IAmAlphaM’s Aaron Marino walks through the entire process in the video above (skip to 3:00 to see the actual demo, but the setup is good). He also explains that a pair of shoes that fit slightly to the body is more than “well, you should get the right size.” Maybe you are of medium size, or as we found out, your legs are swollen during the day , so the pair you want to wear tonight might feel better when you bought it earlier a few days ago. All is not lost anyway, and with a little work, you will feel comfortable in your new shoes.
