Google Puts Picasa in Its Grave and Goes to Google Photos
Hope you enjoy Google Photos. From May 1st, Google is going to completely remove Picasa from its product line. Fortunately, you still have time.
If you have photos stored in Picasa Web Albums, you can access most of them through Google Photos right now. If you want to continue adding and editing these albums, you will have to use Google Photos to do so in the future.
If you don’t like Google Photos, Google is about to release a tool that will allow you to view the details of your Picasa web albums. This will prevent you from making any changes or adding new albums, but all data will be viewable or exported.
The Picasa desktop app will no longer be supported and will not be available for download (at least from Google) after March 15th. If you already have it on your computer, it will still work as usual, but will no longer receive updates. Google suggests using the Google Photos desktop download program instead and managing your photos from the web.
This is a bummer for all of the remaining die-hard Picasa fans, and Google Photos is probably not a perfect replacement. Luckily, it’s pretty darn good . Google has been steadily improving the service since its impressive launch back in 2014 . Picasa had a good job, but now is a good time to move on.
